Action Alert: Tell CalFire NOT TO Resume Logging Jackson State Forest Take Action!CalFire announced on Monday, October 17th that timber operations would resume in the controversial Caspar 500 Timber Harvest Plan (THP) located in Jackson Demonstration State Forest (JDSF). The plan has been at the center of over two years of protest in the state-owned timberland located in Mendocino County. Logging Will Restart in Jackson in Face of Tribal Negotiations

CalFire announced today that logging would resume in the Jackson Demonstration State Forest in Mendocino County, previously put on “pause” while negotiations with local Tribal nations were underway. CalFire made this announcement without informing the Tribes that they have been at the table with for six months. Recent News From the Forests of the Northcoast

In most of past forest preservation campaigns, forest defenders were going nose to nose with big corporations like Sierra Pacific Industries, Green Diamond, Mendocino/Humboldt Redwood Co.,Pacific Lumber/Maxxam, etc.  But in 2021 and 2022, the bad management practices  decimating increasingly scarce forest habitat in Northern California have different players: CalFire and PG&E. Alert: Weekend logging in the redwoods in Jackson State Forest! Uphold the People’s Moratorium!

Calls & emails needed to stop the “Red Tail” Massacre Last Thursday, logging crews re-entered the “Red Tail” timber harvest plan (THP) in Jackson Demonstration State Forest in Mendocino County, to cut large trees on public lands despite a pending review of the management plan. Forest Defenders met them in the woods, and returned again Friday to keep the big old trees at Red Tail from being cut. Here we go again. Caltrans is back with another attempt to push through their Richardson Grove Project: They seek to “realign” the curvy Hwy 101 through the ancient redwoods of this 99-year old State Park to provide access for more and bigger trucks through the redwoods.
